00:00SPEAKER- I gotta say, we started recording at exactly the same time
00:03SPEAKERon the last episode.
00:04SPEAKERIt was amazing.
00:05SPEAKER- Are you saying that we are drift compatible?
00:07SPEAKER- Drift compatible, Brad.
00:09SPEAKER- We don't even need the beep anymore.
00:10SPEAKERWe don't need to use any timekeeping APIs
00:13SPEAKERto sync our recording, that we're just doing it
00:15SPEAKERpsychologically, kind of telepathically.
00:17SPEAKER- We absolutely need the beep.
00:18SPEAKER(laughs)
00:19SPEAKERBut trying to synchronize the conversation
00:23SPEAKERon episodes with no beep is, oh my God.
00:27SPEAKERYou just end up second guessing yourself
00:29SPEAKERthe whole way through.
00:30SPEAKER'Cause you're like, is he talking over here?
00:31SPEAKEROr is this just a place where the latency on the call
00:40SPEAKERmessed up the way the conversation flowed?
00:42SPEAKER- Was he just stopping to think for a second?
00:45SPEAKER- Is this a pause?
00:46SPEAKERIs this a pregnant pause?
00:47SPEAKEROr is this just the clocks have drifted
00:50SPEAKERon the two different audio files?
00:53SPEAKER- When did you have to sync without the click track stuff?
00:57SPEAKERDid that happen?
00:58SPEAKER- I don't believe it happened on this podcast, however.
01:01SPEAKER- Okay, I was gonna say,
01:02SPEAKERmy podcast etiquette and protocol are above reproach.
01:05SPEAKER- Yes, no, you are a very good podcast co-host.
01:07SPEAKEROn some of the other podcasts I've done in the past,
01:10SPEAKERthe other co-hosts were less fastidious
01:13SPEAKERabout their clapping and synchronizing sounds.
01:18SPEAKERAnd as a result, we occasionally would have
01:21SPEAKERto eyeball the sync.
01:24SPEAKERAnd since we did video there,
01:25SPEAKERyou had to do it based on mouth movements.
01:27SPEAKER- Oh no.
01:28SPEAKERI'm real bad.
01:29SPEAKERI can't read lips, it turns out.
01:31SPEAKER- This is why it's important to observe proper procedure.
01:34SPEAKER- Gotta always follow the process.
01:39SPEAKER- That was too short.
01:41SPEAKER- Was it?
01:42SPEAKER- It was a minute and 40 seconds.
01:43SPEAKER- Don't we make the rules?
01:44SPEAKER- Yeah, but I think it's too short.
01:46SPEAKERI'm making the rules.
01:47SPEAKER- The more we talk, the longer it goes.
01:49SPEAKER- That's true.
01:49SPEAKER- We can salvage this.
01:52SPEAKERWhat else you got?
01:53SPEAKER- I got nothing else right now.
01:54SPEAKERI'm looking around my desk furiously,
01:56SPEAKERlooking for something I can talk about.
01:57SPEAKER- I have too many DualShock 4s.
01:59SPEAKERWhat am I gonna do with DualShock 4s?
02:01SPEAKERBecause I can't use them on anything
02:02SPEAKERexcept PlayStation 4, which now lives in the closet.
02:05SPEAKER- You can use them on PlayStation 5.
02:06SPEAKER- Wait, can you?
02:07SPEAKER- Yeah, therefore it's compatible.
02:09SPEAKER- Wait.
02:10SPEAKER- You lose the good triggers.
02:11SPEAKER- Oh God, you're right, aren't you?
02:13SPEAKERAm I losing my touch?
02:15SPEAKER- You got the touch.
02:16SPEAKER- Am I losing my moral authority
02:19SPEAKERon business of video games?
02:21SPEAKERHang on.
02:21SPEAKER- You got the power.
02:22SPEAKER- Wait, you're totally right.
02:24SPEAKER- Yeah, they don't work very well in my experience.
02:25SPEAKERI tried it.
02:27SPEAKERThe bummer is you can't use the,
02:28SPEAKERlike I wanted to, when I got my PS5,
02:30SPEAKERI wanted to use the old PS4 as like a remote station
02:32SPEAKERfor the PS5 and the other rooms.
02:35SPEAKERAnd you can't do that at all.
02:36SPEAKER- Wait, you can't?
02:37SPEAKER- Well, you can, but you have to use the PS4 controller
02:39SPEAKERand then you lose,
02:39SPEAKERyou can't plug a PS5 controller into the PS4.
02:41SPEAKER- Oh, no, definitely not.
02:43SPEAKER- And get the good triggers
02:44SPEAKERon your remote play PS5 games through the PS4.
02:47SPEAKERSo, throw it all out.
02:49SPEAKER- I guess these DualShock 4s still have some utility.
02:52SPEAKERI'll keep them around in this drawer for all those people
02:54SPEAKERI'm having over to play multiplayer PlayStation games.
02:56SPEAKER- I'm going to tell you,
02:58SPEAKERif it's the launch DualShock 4,
03:00SPEAKERthe ones that are creaky,
03:02SPEAKERwe talked about this a few weeks ago,
03:03SPEAKERbut like just get rid of them.
03:05SPEAKERYou're not going to use them.
03:06SPEAKER- Oh yeah, no, no.
03:07SPEAKERI'm all light bar all the time in here at this point.
03:09SPEAKER- Double light bar, but even more pad, whatever.
03:12SPEAKER- You know, I'm just going to keep
03:14SPEAKERpiling these controllers up one day.
03:18SPEAKERYes.
03:19SPEAKER- It's one of my favorite controllers.
03:20SPEAKERIt's a really good controller.
03:20SPEAKER- I know it's good, it's good.
03:21SPEAKERBut I mean, I've got Xbox 360 controllers
03:24SPEAKERand DualShock 4s and Xbox One controllers
03:26SPEAKERand like they just keep multiplying.
03:29SPEAKERI'm just going to keep keeping them one day.
03:32SPEAKERI'm going to build a house out of them.
03:33SPEAKER- Did you?
03:34SPEAKER- I will just build a home from old video game controllers.
03:37SPEAKER- Did you all have a free table at GameSpot?
03:41SPEAKERLike the table where people chuck the stuff
03:43SPEAKERthat they didn't want anymore
03:44SPEAKERand then they're cleaning off their desks and stuff?
03:46SPEAKER- Not really, because everything we had
03:48SPEAKERwas pretty much in use all the time.
03:50SPEAKERIf you mean controllers and stuff like that.
03:52SPEAKER- Well, I mean, like we, so at max PC,
03:54SPEAKERwe would get a like regular supply of things
03:56SPEAKERthat like were inexpensive to the point
04:00SPEAKERthat they weren't worth like return shipping on.
04:02SPEAKERAnd it ranged from like for a while,
04:05SPEAKERsomebody was on a movie,
04:06SPEAKERa couple of movie studios mailing lists.
04:08SPEAKERSo there'd just be a bunch of DVDs every,
04:09SPEAKERlike 50 DVDs every week would come in.
04:12SPEAKER- Yeah.
04:13SPEAKER- And he would pick through the ones that he wanted
04:14SPEAKERand then chuck the rest out on the free table.
04:16SPEAKERAnd it would be like swag t-shirts and hats and,
04:19SPEAKERbut occasionally, occasionally it would be
04:22SPEAKERsomething really good.
04:23SPEAKER- Oh?
04:24SPEAKER- Like an Xbox 360 controller.
04:25SPEAKER- Wow.
04:26SPEAKER- Or once upon a time, there was a Logitech steering wheel
04:30SPEAKERwith a shifter and wheels for the previous gen,
04:34SPEAKERI think it was for the PS2 era in the like 360 PS3 days.
04:39SPEAKER- Wait, hang on.
04:40SPEAKERAre you telling me that racing wheels
04:41SPEAKERare not forward compatible?
04:43SPEAKER- They are now, but back then, less so.
04:46SPEAKER- Wow.
04:47SPEAKER- Well, remember the PS2 had that weird plug.
04:48SPEAKER- Well, yeah.
04:49SPEAKER- It wasn't USB.
04:50SPEAKER- Talk about, I'm asking building materials.
04:53SPEAKER- Yeah, look, stacks of racing wheels.
04:56SPEAKER- Racing wheels and plastic guitars.
04:58SPEAKERI could build a house out of plastic guitars.
05:00SPEAKER- Hey look, wise man once said, don't buy a racing wheel.
05:03SPEAKERAnd I think we can stand by that.
05:04SPEAKER- I, did you ever go to Circuit City
05:08SPEAKERwhen they were closing out all the rock band
05:09SPEAKERand guitar hero stuff?
05:11SPEAKERLike when Circuit City was going out of business?
05:13SPEAKER- I don't think so.
05:14SPEAKER- So that Circuit City on Van Ness,
05:15SPEAKERthe one up on the north end of Van Ness,
05:18SPEAKERright when you get to the top of the hill,
05:20SPEAKERwe went on closeout day and pretty much
05:23SPEAKERall that they had three days before they shut down forever
05:26SPEAKERwas a whole bunch of like coffee makers
05:29SPEAKERand grab bad coffee grinders and stuff like that.
05:32SPEAKERAnd then literally room after room after room
05:36SPEAKERof guitar hero and rock band controllers.
05:38SPEAKER- For how discounted are we talking?
05:41SPEAKER- Look, I think if you pick them up
05:42SPEAKERand took them out without paying,
05:43SPEAKERthey wouldn't have complained.
05:45SPEAKER- Did you make off with some guitars?
05:48SPEAKER- Well, I had enough guitars,
05:49SPEAKERso I didn't take more guitars, I was good.
05:52SPEAKERYou know, the failure rate on the late era
05:54SPEAKERharmonics instruments was pretty good.
05:57SPEAKERSo I didn't feel the need to get spares.
06:00SPEAKERI also didn't realize that that genre
06:01SPEAKERwas gonna go away forever
06:03SPEAKERand you'd never be able to buy new ones.
06:04SPEAKERSo, you know, lessons learned.
06:07SPEAKER(upbeat music)
06:22SPEAKER(upbeat music continues)
06:35SPEAKER- Welcome to Brad and Will Made a Tech Pod.
06:37SPEAKERI'm Will.
06:38SPEAKER- I'm Brad.
06:39SPEAKER- Season's greetings to you.
06:40SPEAKER- Season's greetings, Brad, to all.
06:44SPEAKERIt is that time of year again.
06:46SPEAKERIt's the winter, the winter, the winter ending is upon us.
06:49SPEAKER- Yes, we're in the interim between the Thanksgiving
06:52SPEAKERand the Christmas, et cetera.
06:54SPEAKER- What was your pie-sich last week?
06:57SPEAKER(Will laughs)
06:57SPEAKERDid you really?
06:58SPEAKER- Oh, this is, I can't believe you're bringing this up.
07:00SPEAKERI can't believe I'm going to say this.
07:03SPEAKEROur pie situation, we were going to buy a pie.
07:05SPEAKER- Okay.
07:06SPEAKER- Safeway sells half pies now,
07:07SPEAKERwhich I was pretty stoked about
07:08SPEAKERconsidering there's only two of us at the moment.
07:11SPEAKER- I mean, A, that's probably a healthy amount of pie
07:14SPEAKERfor two people to eat,
07:15SPEAKERbut B, I'm a little disappointed in you, Brad.
07:17SPEAKER- Well then buckle up 'cause it's about to get worse.
07:19SPEAKER- Oh no.
07:20SPEAKER- But I do salute the half pie.
07:22SPEAKERLike that's two pieces for two people over a couple of days.
07:24SPEAKERThat's like a sensible amount of pie.
07:27SPEAKER- Yes.
07:28SPEAKER- Instead, some pie was gifted to us
07:31SPEAKERfrom my partner's place of work.
07:33SPEAKER- Okay.
07:34SPEAKER- Some leftover pie was brought home.
07:36SPEAKER- Oh, oh, you got free table pie.
07:39SPEAKER- Some leftover Costco pumpkin pie in a big old pile.
07:44SPEAKER- Like a heap of pie?
07:46SPEAKER- It did not get transferred very elegantly
07:48SPEAKERinto the container, let's say.
07:49SPEAKERSo it was sort of haphazard chunks of pumpkin pie
07:53SPEAKERhanded down from a work event.
07:56SPEAKERThat was our pie situation for Thanksgiving.
07:58SPEAKER- I gotta say Costco pumpkin pie, pretty strong.
08:00SPEAKER- It was actually, I was surprised.
08:01SPEAKERLike for as unpresentable as it looked, it was very tasty.
08:05SPEAKER- I have been at places
08:06SPEAKERwhere there were Costco pumpkin pies served before
08:08SPEAKERand I was not unhappy with the pumpkin pie.
08:10SPEAKER- Costco food, I mean, in general,
08:11SPEAKERI got mostly pretty nice things to say.
08:15SPEAKERThose chickens, those roasters, man, when we talk about it,
08:17SPEAKERlike we know what it is doing to the earth sediment layer,
08:20SPEAKERbut.
08:22SPEAKER- Well, we learned after we went to the drive-in
08:24SPEAKERthe other day that there's a Costco just around the corner
08:26SPEAKERand like the pro move when you go to the drive-in,
08:29SPEAKERwhich is where the tickets are very cheap
08:30SPEAKERand they make all of their money on the concession stand,
08:33SPEAKERis to just swing by Costco and grab a couple of pizzas
08:36SPEAKERon the way in.
08:37SPEAKER- Ooh, wow.
08:38SPEAKER- And then, you know, like we saw somebody next to us
08:40SPEAKEReating a hot and ready from Little Caesars
08:41SPEAKERand I was like, I don't know if I'm into that kind
08:43SPEAKERof lifestyle at this point in my life,
08:45SPEAKERbut a Costco pepperoni, I'll eat a Costco pep.
08:48SPEAKER- Totally different. - That sounds good.
08:49SPEAKER- Completely different.
08:50SPEAKER- Yeah, it's a completely legitimate pizza there.
08:53SPEAKER- You just made me realize, first of all,
08:55SPEAKERI saw your Chevy Bolt?
08:57SPEAKER- Bolt. - The Bolt.
08:58SPEAKER- The Bolt is the one with a gas motor.
09:00SPEAKERThis is all electric, baby.
09:01SPEAKER- Okay, I don't know why I can't keep those straight.
09:03SPEAKERFirst of all, I saw your Chevy Bolt for the first time
09:05SPEAKERin person a few days ago and was shocked
09:07SPEAKERat how compact it is.
09:08SPEAKER- It's itsy bitsy.
09:09SPEAKER- It seems very sensible as an around town car,
09:12SPEAKERbut the other thing that you just made me realize
09:13SPEAKERis the number one reason that I would maybe ponder
09:16SPEAKERowning an automobile is trips to Costco whenever you want.
09:20SPEAKER- Oh yeah, there's no added cost.
09:22SPEAKERIt's just the wear and tear on your soul.
09:25SPEAKER- Right, well, yes, I mean, that goes without saying,
09:27SPEAKERbut being able to just go to Costco anytime you want,
09:30SPEAKERas opposed to like twice a year strategically,
09:33SPEAKERlike, okay, we gotta rent a car.
09:35SPEAKERLike, we gotta really make this one count
09:37SPEAKER'cause it's not like we can just go to Costco
09:38SPEAKERanytime we want.
09:39SPEAKER- Yeah, no, you gotta really stockpile the toilet paper
09:44SPEAKERif you're gonna make two trips a year to Costco.
09:46SPEAKER- That is literally the barometer
09:47SPEAKERby which we plan our Costco trips.
09:49SPEAKERIt was like, all right, well, we're on the last package,
09:51SPEAKERso we better start planning.
09:53SPEAKER- Do you do like a city car thing anymore?
09:55SPEAKERLike city car share one of those?
09:56SPEAKER- Yeah, we use a Zipcar,
09:58SPEAKERwhich is obviously a hell of a lot more convenient
10:00SPEAKERthan like renting an actual car.
10:02SPEAKER- Yeah, yeah.
10:04SPEAKER- Comes with its own complications.
10:06SPEAKER- I mean, look, the cost of this car
10:10SPEAKERis perfect for suburb life, right?
10:12SPEAKERLike we drive back and forth.
10:14SPEAKERMost days, the only thing we do
10:16SPEAKERis drive back and forth to school these days.
10:18SPEAKERSometimes we go to a store or something,
10:19SPEAKERbut like for the most part, it's like to school and back,
10:22SPEAKERwhich is like five miles each way.
10:24SPEAKERAnd it costs nothing to run.
10:26SPEAKERThere's very little maintenance.
10:28SPEAKERLike I looked at the brakes the other day
10:29SPEAKERand they show no use
10:30SPEAKERdespite us putting 3000 miles on the car.
10:33SPEAKERYeah, I like it a lot.
10:35SPEAKERThe battery situation is not ideal,
10:38SPEAKERbut Chevrolet and LG seem to be working on that,
10:41SPEAKERalbeit slower than I would like.
10:43SPEAKER- Wait, are they just gonna replace the battery
10:44SPEAKERat some point when they have the battery?
10:46SPEAKER- In every single one of those cars, yes.
10:49SPEAKERBut like they're scheduling replacements
10:51SPEAKERbased on how likely your car is to explode.
10:53SPEAKERAnd since we're low mileage and a new car,
10:56SPEAKERwe're really low on the list.
10:57SPEAKERSo like I was looking at the dates,
11:01SPEAKERI was like, they might not even get to us
11:03SPEAKERbefore it's time to turn the lease back in in two years,
11:05SPEAKERtwo and a half years.
11:07SPEAKERAnyways. - Play it safe.
11:09SPEAKER- I mean, look, we don't charge above 80%
11:10SPEAKERor whatever it is they're telling us.
11:11SPEAKERAnd like, it's fine.
11:14SPEAKER- Hey, new technology.
11:15SPEAKER- Yeah, if it's someplace that it catches on fire,
11:17SPEAKERthen it'll probably just cinch the driveway a little bit.
11:19SPEAKERIt'll be fine.
11:21SPEAKERWhat are we here to talk about this week, Brad?
11:24SPEAKER- 'Tis the season.
11:25SPEAKER- We said that already.
11:26SPEAKER- Oh, happy holidays.
11:29SPEAKER- No, no, we're talking about gifts.
11:31SPEAKER- Yes.
11:32SPEAKER- It's not a gift guide.
11:33SPEAKER- Welcome to, oh, damn,
11:34SPEAKERI was literally about to say
11:35SPEAKERwelcome to the 2021 official TechPod gift guide episode.
11:39SPEAKER- Shit, we should've talked about this beforehand.
11:41SPEAKER- This is not a gift guide.
11:42SPEAKER- This is not a gift guide.
11:44SPEAKERIt's like, look, so I don't,
11:47SPEAKERcoming from magazine land, I don't like gift guides
11:49SPEAKERbecause gift guides were, in most cases, in my experience,
11:53SPEAKERan excuse for people to get in a bunch of stuff
11:55SPEAKERthat they thought was cool, but would never spend money on.
11:58SPEAKERAnd like, for me, getting somebody something that is novel,
12:02SPEAKERbut that you would never actually spend your own money on
12:04SPEAKERfor yourself is a pretty bad gift.
12:07SPEAKER- Yeah, 'cause it's not practical.
12:09SPEAKERI mean, what are they,
12:10SPEAKERif you're not gonna buy it for yourself,
12:11SPEAKERthen what do they want with it either?
12:13SPEAKER- That's it.
12:13SPEAKERLike, I like to give things that I use and love
12:18SPEAKERand would happily spend my own money on to get for myself.
12:21SPEAKERAnd that's the lens through which we kind of sat down
12:25SPEAKERto make the list of things that are in our not gift guide.
12:29SPEAKER- Yeah, I mean, at a certain point, as you age,
12:31SPEAKERas you grow up, as you move from childhood
12:33SPEAKERto adolescence to adulthood,
12:34SPEAKERyou hit a certain point in disposable income
12:36SPEAKERwhere the fun, unattainable gifts
12:39SPEAKERare no longer unattainable, right?
12:41SPEAKERLike, if it's like a video game or, I mean, granted,
12:44SPEAKERyou're probably not trying
12:45SPEAKERto buy the G.I. Joe aircraft carrier late in life,
12:48SPEAKERor maybe you are.
12:49SPEAKER- I'm gonna tell you, at Comic-Con,
12:50SPEAKERwhen they sold that a few years ago,
12:51SPEAKERthere was a giant fucking line of all adults.
12:54SPEAKER- Okay, I believe it, actually, but you know what I mean?
12:56SPEAKERThe point is, you reach adulthood,
12:58SPEAKERlike little things that are just meant to entertain you,
13:01SPEAKERyou just buy when you want them.
13:02SPEAKERLike, you don't need to wait for Christmas
13:05SPEAKERto get your one Super Nintendo game for the year,
13:06SPEAKERyou just buy your, you know what I mean?
13:08SPEAKER- Yeah, dude, I was literally,
13:11SPEAKERI was sitting and talking to Gary,
13:13SPEAKERwho, his daughter and my daughter are really good friends,
13:16SPEAKERand they were playing and we were chatting,
13:17SPEAKERand I was like, like, our kids are nine
13:21SPEAKERand nine and nine and a half, right?
13:23SPEAKERAnd it's like, what do you get?
13:26SPEAKERLike, normally, when I was nine, I wanted video games, right?
13:28SPEAKERNine or 10, I wanted video games,
13:29SPEAKER'cause I wasn't really asking for toys very much anymore,
13:32SPEAKERbut I wanted-- - You didn't have the money
13:34SPEAKERto buy a game yourself, necessarily.
13:35SPEAKER- Yeah. - If you could save it up,
13:37SPEAKERit took quite some time.
13:38SPEAKER- Yeah, it was a big expenditure,
13:40SPEAKERso getting a bonus game, or maybe two,
13:43SPEAKERif I could get the grandparents to pony up, too,
13:44SPEAKERwas a real haul.
13:48SPEAKERBut they don't have that,
13:49SPEAKERbecause the world of video games is accessible to them,
13:54SPEAKERand realistically, all they wanna play
13:55SPEAKERis Roblox and Animal Crossing.
13:56SPEAKER- Oh, God, I didn't even think about what that's like
13:58SPEAKERas a child these days, that like, yeah,
14:01SPEAKERso many of, I mean, I'm sure it's not a coincidence
14:04SPEAKERthat so many of the most popular games are freely accessible,
14:07SPEAKERas in free to play, but even games that would cost
14:09SPEAKER50, 60 bucks are largely on things like Game Pass now, so.
14:13SPEAKER- Well, that's it, yeah, and Gary and I both buy,
14:17SPEAKERif we don't get stuff sent to us,
14:18SPEAKERthen we still buy most of the new releases,
14:20SPEAKERjust 'cause we like to stay up on it.
14:21SPEAKERAnd it was a, like, actually, I showed her how to use,
14:27SPEAKERI set up the Xbox Series S in the living room the other day,
14:29SPEAKERand I showed her how to use Game Pass,
14:31SPEAKERshe was like, wait, I can just download all of these games?
14:32SPEAKERI was like, yeah, these are all there,
14:33SPEAKERyou can just play any of them, whatever you want,
14:35SPEAKERas long as it's not, like, you know,
14:37SPEAKERsuper gory or whatever, and it's gonna give you nightmares.
14:39SPEAKERShe's like, oh, and then she started playing Forza, so.
14:43SPEAKER- Wow. - Baby steps.
14:44SPEAKER- That's wild, as a child, to have access to that stuff.
14:47SPEAKERI mean, it does, I see people talking about this,
14:48SPEAKERlike, it does potentially lead to that devaluation of choice
14:53SPEAKERof just, like, I have access to all this stuff
14:55SPEAKERfor essentially free, I mean, setting the subscription
14:58SPEAKERprice aside, so, like, I'm gonna spend five minutes
15:00SPEAKERon each thing and not really value them as experiences.
15:03SPEAKERIt's just like, oh, well, I've touched that,
15:05SPEAKERI don't care anymore, you know what I mean?
15:06SPEAKER- Yeah. - Like, it says,
15:07SPEAKERpeople talk about the same thing with, like,
15:09SPEAKERlike a Mr. or emulation, you know, it's like, oh,
15:11SPEAKERI have the entire library of all these consoles,
15:13SPEAKERand now I'm going to play none of them.
15:15SPEAKER- Well, and also, the challenge becomes, like,
15:18SPEAKERhey, how do I play this game, or how do I beat this game,
15:21SPEAKERor how do I get the most value out of this game
15:22SPEAKERthat I saved up my lawn mowing money for a month to buy?
15:25SPEAKER- Right. - And it turns into,
15:28SPEAKERI don't have any idea what to play,
15:30SPEAKERbecause I don't know anything about these games,
15:31SPEAKERand there's an infinity of them, right?
15:34SPEAKER'Cause, like, in addition to the Game Pass games,
15:35SPEAKERshe also has access to the entirety of
15:38SPEAKERwhatever I bought digitally on the Xbox One,
15:40SPEAKERand through Games with Gold, and all that stuff
15:43SPEAKERover the last, like, 10, 12, 20 years, whatever it's been.
15:46SPEAKER- Yeah. - So, yeah, anyway.
15:47SPEAKER- Yeah, anyway, I think a corollary to all this
15:49SPEAKERis that kids are generally pretty easy to buy gifts for,
15:52SPEAKERbecause they're very good at knowing what they want
15:53SPEAKERand telling you what they want.
15:54SPEAKER- Pretty, pretty true, yeah.
15:56SPEAKER- So I think we're probably here more to talk about
15:59SPEAKERgift-giving between adults,
16:00SPEAKERwhich is not often the easiest thing.
16:03SPEAKER- If you wanna give gifts to kids that are good,
16:05SPEAKERlike, if you have kids in your life,
16:06SPEAKERand you wanna give them thoughtful and good gifts,
16:08SPEAKERtalk to their parents, find out what books they're into.
16:10SPEAKERBooks are awesome, always good.
16:13SPEAKERFigure out which of the free-to-play games
16:15SPEAKERthey like to play, whether it's Fortnite,
16:16SPEAKERor Roblox, or Minecraft,
16:18SPEAKERand buy them the appropriate digital currency for those.
16:21SPEAKER- A gift-wrapped these V-Bucks for you.
16:23SPEAKER- I mean, look, you wanna see a kid get excited,
16:26SPEAKERthey're gonna be able to buy the banana costume,
16:27SPEAKERthey'll fuckin' bounce off the walls at that, so.
16:30SPEAKER- Oh yeah, oh yeah, of course.
16:31SPEAKERBut you know, yeah, again, giving gifts to adults
16:34SPEAKERwho can just buy whatever they want already.
16:36SPEAKER- Yeah, it's hard. - That's where things
16:37SPEAKERget tricky, that's where, yes, for sure.
16:39SPEAKER- Well, and it's easy to do the thing where you just are like,
16:43SPEAKER"I'm gonna spend way too much money on this,
16:44SPEAKER"'cause this is something I know
16:45SPEAKER"they would never buy for themselves."
16:47SPEAKERBut that's kind of a cop-out.
16:49SPEAKER- Yeah, yeah.
16:50SPEAKER- I mean, do that for your spouse, maybe.
16:52SPEAKERBut not your brother-in-law.
16:55SPEAKER- I mean, the-- - Sorry, Barry.
16:58SPEAKER- We've got a little list of guidelines here
17:00SPEAKERthat we think are ways to give thoughtful gifts,
17:02SPEAKERbut like, for me, every one of my favorite gifts
17:06SPEAKERthrough adulthood that I've gotten
17:08SPEAKERor that I've given to people are, like in my case,
17:10SPEAKERthings that I, not only did I not know that I wanted them,
17:13SPEAKERbut I'd never even heard of them.
17:14SPEAKERLike, I didn't even know it was a category of product
17:16SPEAKERuntil they gave it to me.
17:18SPEAKERAnd like, the two, I feel like the two goals
17:21SPEAKERyou're trying to fulfill with a good gift
17:23SPEAKERare you're trying to make their life better in some way,
17:26SPEAKERsome small, like you have streamlined
17:28SPEAKERthis person's daily existence in some way.
17:30SPEAKER- Reduce the pain of living, yeah.
17:31SPEAKER- Yes, and second, you have shown
17:33SPEAKERthat you really thought about who they are as a person
17:35SPEAKERand what they like to do and what their life is like.
17:37SPEAKERAnd like, you've put thought into the gift.
17:40SPEAKERLike, my girlfriend is really good at this,
17:42SPEAKERlike finding just, like not, like you said,
17:44SPEAKERit's not big, expensive, extravagant stuff.
17:46SPEAKERIt's like, oh, I know you like to put ice in your water.
17:50SPEAKERI got you this much nicer ice tray
17:52SPEAKERthan the crappy old ice trays we've been using forever.
17:55SPEAKERYou know what I mean? - Yeah, yeah.
17:55SPEAKER- Like this ice tray has like, like it slides out.
17:58SPEAKERIt's got like a slide pull handle and like a silicone cover
18:02SPEAKERto keep a junk in the freezer from getting on it.
18:04SPEAKERYou know what I mean?
18:04SPEAKERIt's just like, oh, it's just a slightly better ice tray,
18:06SPEAKERbut this is like so cool in terms of like something
18:09SPEAKERthat I already like to do, getting just a little bit better.
18:12SPEAKER- Well, it's the year that we discovered
18:15SPEAKERthe Zojirushi thermal mugs
18:17SPEAKERwhen Dave got bought that one at whiskey.
18:19SPEAKERAnd like, I was like, this thing's incredible.
18:21SPEAKER- Yeah, that's like the perfect example.
18:23SPEAKER- I got them for everybody that drinks coffee
18:25SPEAKERthe first year, but I didn't get them
18:28SPEAKERfor the people who didn't drink coffee.
18:29SPEAKERAnd my sister doesn't drink coffee, my brother-in-law does.
18:33SPEAKERSo he got one.
18:35SPEAKERAnd then my sister started using it
18:36SPEAKERwhen she was out working on the tractor at her horse farm.
18:39SPEAKERAnd she used it to keep drinks cold in the summer.
18:42SPEAKERAnd she was like, this thing is incredible.
18:43SPEAKERI could put like one cube of ice in here.
18:45SPEAKERAnd my ice water stays cold all day.
18:47SPEAKERI was like, oh.
18:48SPEAKERSo then I got them for the people
18:49SPEAKERwho don't drink coffee the next year, it was great.
18:53SPEAKERBut something like that, like it makes it,
18:55SPEAKERit doesn't spill, it keeps your coffee hot.
18:57SPEAKERIt keeps your cold drinks cold.
18:58SPEAKERIt's something you probably didn't know
19:00SPEAKERwas that as good as it is.
19:02SPEAKERAnd yeah, that's the bar.
19:05SPEAKER- Yes, of course. - That's what we try for.
19:07SPEAKER- Yeah, of course, like we are not in a position
19:09SPEAKERto recommend stuff like that
19:10SPEAKER'cause you have to know the person,
19:11SPEAKERyou have to know what they do and don't have, like.
19:15SPEAKER- Yeah.
19:15SPEAKER- Describing things that you don't know about already
19:17SPEAKERis probably tough.
19:18SPEAKER- Going to a gift guide on random website
19:21SPEAKERis not going to give you,
19:22SPEAKERit might give you something that prompts you
19:24SPEAKERto think about something that person likes.
19:25SPEAKER- That's true.
19:26SPEAKER- But it's not gonna, like you can't just,
19:28SPEAKERit's not like you can go to the wire cutters guide
19:30SPEAKERfor the 100 best gifts in 2021 and just be like,
19:33SPEAKERoh, well, number one, two and three, that's it, we're done.
19:36SPEAKER- Right, 'cause yeah, the best gifts
19:37SPEAKERare as personalized as possible.
19:39SPEAKER- I love, I love, love, love finding Etsy stuff.
19:44SPEAKER- That's good, like Etsy's a little bit dangerous
19:47SPEAKERbecause sometimes Etsy stuff is just like
19:49SPEAKERmass produced bootleg stuff.
19:53SPEAKER- Sure.
19:54SPEAKER- Like if you want to get a pair of Groot earrings
19:57SPEAKERthat are not the official licensed ones,
19:58SPEAKERyou can go to Etsy and find that.
20:00SPEAKER- Okay, you mean like copyright infringing stuff.
20:02SPEAKER- Yeah.
20:03SPEAKER- I see.
20:04SPEAKER- But also if you want to find something,
20:05SPEAKERlike if you have a friend who's like a huge fan
20:08SPEAKERof something that doesn't have merch surrounding it, right?
20:11SPEAKERLike there's a lot of, there's a lot of,
20:14SPEAKERthere's a lot of properties and there's a lot of media stuff
20:16SPEAKERand there's a lot of games that are successful and big,
20:19SPEAKERbut like they don't, they don't make Hitman.
20:21SPEAKERWell, I guess they are making Hitman merch now,
20:22SPEAKERbut they traditionally IO hadn't made
20:24SPEAKERa bunch of Hitman merch that's like wall art
20:27SPEAKERor something like that.
20:28SPEAKERAnd you get a cool, like actually done by a real artist
20:31SPEAKERprint or original of, you know, your favorite,
20:35SPEAKERyour favorite game or your gift Getty's favorite game
20:38SPEAKERor something like that.
20:39SPEAKERThat's a, that's a cool thing I think.
20:41SPEAKER- Etsy's an interesting suggestion because I mean,
20:43SPEAKERthis is very outdated thinking, but to me in my mind,
20:46SPEAKEREtsy is still very much like handmade craft type stuff,
20:49SPEAKERlike knitting.
20:50SPEAKER- There's a lot of that.
20:51SPEAKER- Handmade art, like that kind of thing.
20:52SPEAKERLike it's very artsy craftsy in my mind
20:55SPEAKERbecause I think that's kind of where it's got its start,
20:57SPEAKERright, largely.
20:58SPEAKER- Well, I mean, that's, that was the early perception.
21:00SPEAKERThere was a lot of like, it originally started
21:03SPEAKERas a lot of stuff made by hand from like metalworking
21:05SPEAKERand like jewelry making.
21:08SPEAKERThere's a lot, like somebody I follow on Twitter makes,
21:13SPEAKERspace inspired jewelry and like she gets beads
21:17SPEAKERand does the beads that are the right scale and colors
21:20SPEAKERto represent different planets and moons
21:22SPEAKERand stuff like that.
21:22SPEAKERAnd it's like, it's really cool, right?
21:24SPEAKERLike if you have somebody in your life that loves space,
21:26SPEAKERit's an awesome, awesome kind of jewelry gift for them.
21:29SPEAKER- Sure, yeah, the thing I was gonna say though is like,
21:31SPEAKERI feel like the domain of Etsy has expanded a lot
21:34SPEAKERin the last two, three years.
21:35SPEAKERLike there's a lot of, you find a lot of electronics
21:37SPEAKERon there now.
21:38SPEAKER- Well, they stopped gatekeeping, yeah.
21:39SPEAKERAnd also, yeah, but like the electronics that you find,
21:42SPEAKERlike Mr. Add-On started on Etsy, right?
21:44SPEAKER- That's what I mean.
21:45SPEAKERI don't know if he did.
21:46SPEAKERThere is a, gosh, I feel like I should,
21:49SPEAKER- One of the big Mr. Stories started on Etsy, yeah.
21:51SPEAKER- I feel like I need to look up his name
21:52SPEAKERto give him due credit.
21:53SPEAKERBut one of the other, it's not Mr. Add-Ons,
21:55SPEAKERbut there's another, ah, the name is on the tip of my tongue.
21:58SPEAKERBut yes, one of the other big Mr. Add-On makers.
22:00SPEAKER- It was the UK one, right?
22:01SPEAKER- That might be right.
22:02SPEAKER- Yeah, but yeah, there's a lot of stuff like this.
22:04SPEAKERThere's a lot of people doing like custom lighting kits.
22:07SPEAKERLike if you want to get, if you have a Lego set
22:08SPEAKERthat you love, like your friend has a Lego set
22:10SPEAKERthat they display 'cause they love it,
22:12SPEAKERwhether it's like the Friend Central perk
22:14SPEAKERor the Seinfeld set or something like that,
22:17SPEAKERyou can buy lighting kits for those
22:19SPEAKERthat have LED lights that you wire through the bricks
22:22SPEAKERand it'll light up the lights in the Lego set
22:25SPEAKERand set it like a set.
22:27SPEAKER- I'm sorry, I'm making faces.
22:28SPEAKERI'll explain in a second before we finish this thought.
22:30SPEAKERBut yeah, I think, I guess the thing I'm talking about
22:34SPEAKERhas risen in tandem with the accessibility
22:36SPEAKERof getting your own PCBs done and stuff like that.
22:38SPEAKERIt's like regular people with the electronic skills
22:41SPEAKERcan make a literal device with circuit boards
22:44SPEAKERand everything these days all kind of made to order, right?
22:46SPEAKERAnd there's a lot more of that kind of stuff on there.
22:48SPEAKERSo Etsy is probably a good place to poke around for stuff.
22:52SPEAKERAlthough the reason I was making a face,
22:55SPEAKERI clicked on their main gift guide,
22:57SPEAKERlike gift kind of promo unit on the front page.
23:00SPEAKER- Yeah.
23:01SPEAKER- And like in the very top row of results.
23:06SPEAKER- Yes, there's a fair amount of adult material
23:10SPEAKERcoming to the surface here.
23:11SPEAKER- I'm pretty sure you can get custom dildos made
23:13SPEAKERif you want them made on Etsy, yeah.
23:16SPEAKER- There is a line of candles fashioned like genitalia
23:20SPEAKERright here on the top line.
23:22SPEAKER- That's just.
23:24SPEAKER- Some stuff of that nature.
23:26SPEAKER- I would say if you have any questions
23:30SPEAKERabout whether that's an appropriate gift,
23:32SPEAKERany hesitation whatsoever,
23:33SPEAKERthat's probably not an appropriate gift.
23:35SPEAKER- Probably.
23:36SPEAKER- The genitalia candles.
23:37SPEAKER- I am confident our listeners are able to self filter.
23:41SPEAKER- Yeah.
23:42SPEAKER- Wow, here's a large Poke ball that's a terrarium.
23:45SPEAKER- But yeah.
23:46SPEAKER- That's cool.
23:47SPEAKER- Like stuff like that.
23:48SPEAKERThere's all sorts of weird, cool stuff.
23:49SPEAKERLike there's, like if you want to get a bag,
23:52SPEAKERlike a leather, like a really nice handmade leather bag,
23:55SPEAKERthat's something you can find on Etsy
23:57SPEAKERthat somebody who's really freaking good
23:59SPEAKERat making that stuff will be able to make for you, right?
24:01SPEAKER- Yeah, do you, I mean,
24:02SPEAKERI didn't expect to talk about Etsy so much
24:03SPEAKER'cause I've never really engaged with it,
24:06SPEAKERbut like, do you have any recommendations for,
24:08SPEAKERI guess, quality controls?
24:10SPEAKER- Look at what's going on.
24:11SPEAKERLook at the user reviews
24:13SPEAKERand make sure they're verified purchases, stuff like that.
24:15SPEAKER- Yeah.
24:17SPEAKER- We have in the past, like done,
24:19SPEAKERlike we got a Christmas card,
24:22SPEAKERsome Christmas card art done one year on Etsy.
24:27SPEAKERWe've had bought personalized jewelry.
24:29SPEAKERLike there's a bunch of laser cutter stuff.
24:31SPEAKERMost people don't have access to a laser cutter
24:32SPEAKERand like you can get like Christmas ornaments
24:35SPEAKERand all sorts of other stuff, laser cut for you there.
24:37SPEAKER- Yeah, I've seen some like incredibly nice
24:40SPEAKERcustom neon sign work and stuff like that.
24:42SPEAKERLike there's just people with skills are out there
24:45SPEAKERdoing some really cool stuff in storefronts like this.
24:47SPEAKER- Yeah, like it's the same thing that eBay did
24:50SPEAKERwith people who collect weird stuff 25 years ago.
24:54SPEAKERYou know, it's just for people who can make,
24:57SPEAKERwho have specific making skills.
25:00SPEAKER- So yeah, definitely check Etsy.
25:03SPEAKERThe other one is like,
25:04SPEAKERI don't ever feel bad about buying someone a cheap,
25:07SPEAKERreally special purpose tool.
25:10SPEAKERLike if you want a biscuit joiner,
25:12SPEAKERwhich is like a tool that you use to join two pieces
25:14SPEAKERof wood together on a right angle.
25:16SPEAKER- Wait, I'm sorry.
25:17SPEAKERDid you say a biscuit joiner?
25:17SPEAKER- Yeah, the biscuit is a little,
25:19SPEAKERit's like a little piece of like sawdusty wood come,
25:21SPEAKERcompressed stuff that you like.
25:24SPEAKERSo the biscuit cutter cuts a gap
25:26SPEAKERthat's exactly the right size for the biscuit to go
25:27SPEAKERand then you fill the hole with wood glue
25:30SPEAKERand you put the, jam the biscuits in there
25:32SPEAKERand put glue in the other side
25:33SPEAKERand the moisture from the glue makes the biscuit expand
25:36SPEAKERand it makes a really, really strong join that's flush.
25:39SPEAKER- I was thinking a very, very different type
25:42SPEAKERof biscuit cutter.
25:43SPEAKER- No, it's not the good kind of biscuit.
25:43SPEAKER- And I got very excited.
25:45SPEAKER- Well, so what I was gonna say is like,
25:47SPEAKERmy dad was doing cabinetry stuff a few years ago
25:48SPEAKERand I bought him a Harbor Freight biscuit cutter.
25:51SPEAKERAnd like the joke about Harbor Freight
25:52SPEAKERis that you buy those tools and like,
25:55SPEAKERyou know, like they're good right up until the moment
25:58SPEAKERthat they catch on fire, right?
25:59SPEAKERThey're cheap and they break usually spectacularly.
26:02SPEAKER- I wanted to ask because you wrote Harbor Freight tools
26:04SPEAKERin the notes here.
26:05SPEAKERIs that a brand?
26:06SPEAKERIs that a vendor that sells other people's tools?
26:08SPEAKERI've heard that name over the years,
26:09SPEAKERbut I didn't tell you what the...
26:11SPEAKER- So it's a brand, it's like off-label,
26:14SPEAKERit's like off-label,
26:16SPEAKERthe cheapest of the cheap power tools, basically.
26:19SPEAKER- Oh, power tools?
26:19SPEAKER- Power tools.
26:20SPEAKER- Okay.
26:21SPEAKER- Yeah, so like-
26:22SPEAKER- So there is genuine stuff that can go wrong there.
26:25SPEAKER- Well, yeah, I mean, usually the motors just burn out,
26:27SPEAKERright, but yeah, it's like you buy them.
26:32SPEAKERMy rule is if you use a Harbor Freight tool
26:35SPEAKERlong enough to burn it out,
26:37SPEAKERit's probably worth investing
26:38SPEAKERin a better version of that tool, right?
26:41SPEAKER- Yes.
26:43SPEAKER- And they are incredibly cheap.
26:45SPEAKERLike, okay, just to be clear,
26:48SPEAKERI would not buy a Harbor Freight tool that is used,
26:53SPEAKERlike, that's going to keep you from dying.
26:55SPEAKERLike, don't buy floor jacks from Harbor Freight.
26:59SPEAKER- Do they sell them?
27:01SPEAKER- Oh yeah.
27:01SPEAKER- Somebody's buying them?
27:02SPEAKER- Right here on the homepage.
27:03SPEAKERI would not, or if you do buy floor jacks from Harbor Freight
27:06SPEAKERput blocks under the thing that you're using to jack up
27:09SPEAKERand then lower them back down using the jack.
27:10SPEAKERDon't get under something that's only held up
27:12SPEAKERby a Harbor Freight floor jack.
27:16SPEAKER- Buying the good thing sometimes is worth it.
27:19SPEAKER- Well, yeah, but like power tools,
27:21SPEAKERthere's so many screwball one-off tools.
27:23SPEAKERLike the biscuit cutters,
27:24SPEAKERthe biscuit joiners is the exact right space
27:27SPEAKERto think about this.
27:28SPEAKER'Cause it's like something you use,
27:29SPEAKERlike I've had one for 10 years
27:31SPEAKERand I've used it for two projects, right?
27:33SPEAKERIt's really convenient when I have those two projects,
27:35SPEAKERbut it's absolutely not something I needed to spend $500
27:38SPEAKER'cause it's a really specialized tool.
27:40SPEAKERAnd like, if you get a good one,
27:41SPEAKERit's going to be really fucking expensive.
27:43SPEAKER- Right.
27:44SPEAKERFor how little you're using it,
27:46SPEAKERbuying the cheap one was totally,
27:47SPEAKERif it only lasts like three more projects and then breaks,
27:50SPEAKERlike that's fine, right?
27:51SPEAKERBecause it was so cheap.
27:52SPEAKER- Yeah, honestly, if I go to use it the next time
27:54SPEAKERand it doesn't work, I'm fine.
27:55SPEAKERI got my $35 worth out of it
27:58SPEAKERon the first project, realistically.
28:00SPEAKERLike it's okay to give somebody something that's like,
28:03SPEAKERif they want a reciprocal saw, then get them a cheap one.
28:07SPEAKERAnd if they burn that out, then maybe they can consider,
28:10SPEAKERit's a sign that they need to invest in a good one.
28:12SPEAKERSo I asked the Discord.
28:14SPEAKER- You employed a thread.
28:16SPEAKER- I deployed a thread and I gave some criteria,
28:18SPEAKERlike low cost, high value gifts that people really liked
28:23SPEAKERgetting or giving.
28:25SPEAKERAnd like the obvious stuff came up,
28:27SPEAKERthe things that we've recommended on the podcast,
28:28SPEAKERlike nanotape, people like nanotape's awesome.
28:31SPEAKER- Hey, it turns out- - Yeah, buy nanotape.
28:34SPEAKER- Still pretty good.
28:35SPEAKERI feel a little bit of guilt over my recommendation
28:37SPEAKERof like Command Strips early on in this podcast.
28:40SPEAKERAt that time, I was way into Command Strips and then-
28:42SPEAKER- Look, you didn't know.
28:43SPEAKER- I did not know.
28:44SPEAKER- You hadn't seen the light.
28:45SPEAKER- I did not know.
28:46SPEAKER- I'm going to tell you the truth.
28:47SPEAKER- The nanotape sounded too good to be true.
28:49SPEAKER- That's true.
28:49SPEAKER- It wasn't until I bought something
28:51SPEAKERthat had it on the bottom that I was like,
28:52SPEAKERthis stuff is amazing.
28:53SPEAKER- You have to be careful though with it, I have to say.
28:56SPEAKER- You can peel the plaster off the walls
28:57SPEAKERif you're not careful. - You really can.
28:59SPEAKERI, in a very, an extremely minor, not really a big deal way,
29:03SPEAKERI broke my PS5 stand because of nanotape.
29:06SPEAKER- Wait, really?
29:07SPEAKER- Last week.
29:08SPEAKER- Oh no.
29:09SPEAKER- You know how, well, you have one now.
29:10SPEAKERYou know how in horizontal position,
29:12SPEAKERhow flimsy that stand is?
29:13SPEAKER- Only weirdos use a PS5 in horizontal position.
29:16SPEAKER- I don't have room to.
29:17SPEAKER- Got it, just put it behind the TV.
29:19SPEAKER- Things like six feet tall, I can't stand that thing up.
29:22SPEAKER- Okay, okay.
29:23SPEAKER- Yeah, the stand like hangs if you pick the PS5 up,
29:25SPEAKERlike it literally hangs off the back,
29:26SPEAKERlike it's very flimsy.
29:28SPEAKER- Yeah.
29:29SPEAKER- I've been using a couple of little pieces of nanotape
29:30SPEAKERto stick it to the bottom, which is nice and sturdy.
29:33SPEAKER- Yeah.
29:34SPEAKER- But then when I needed to take the stand off,
29:37SPEAKERit was my fault.
29:38SPEAKERIt was not the nanotape's fault.
29:39SPEAKER- Oh no.
29:40SPEAKER- I just pulled from the very bottom of the stand
29:42SPEAKERwhere the disc rotates, instead of really
29:44SPEAKERwedging my fingers.
29:45SPEAKER- Right down instead of doing the, yeah.
29:46SPEAKER- So one of the little tabs that holds the spinny disc part
29:50SPEAKERof the stand on, it didn't entirely break,
29:52SPEAKERbut it's like on the verge of breaking, like it's fine.
29:55SPEAKER- Is it glueable?
29:56SPEAKER- Probably.
29:58SPEAKER- Get a little super glue on there.
30:00SPEAKER- Is it worth gluing?
30:01SPEAKERI don't know.
30:02SPEAKERLike when it's sitting, it's fine.
30:04SPEAKERIt's just when I pick it up and turn it,
30:05SPEAKERit's a little wonky, but whatever.
30:07SPEAKERAlso, you can't get a replacement PS5 stand easily,
30:09SPEAKERit turns out.
30:10SPEAKER- Really?
30:11SPEAKER- I thought that that might just be something
30:12SPEAKERthat Sony could sell you, but.
30:15SPEAKER- Did you call or did you just look at the website?
30:16SPEAKER- No, I was just Googling around.
30:17SPEAKERLike there's a bunch of very crappy knockoff,
30:20SPEAKERall the express stands.
30:21SPEAKER- I bet if you called, they'd sell you one.
30:23SPEAKER- They might.
30:24SPEAKERIt's not broken.
30:25SPEAKERIt's nowhere near broken enough to be worth that.
30:27SPEAKERAnyway, sorry.
30:28SPEAKERNanotape is good.
30:29SPEAKER- I was gonna say the nanotape I've used is always
30:30SPEAKERlike sticky on one side, like gluey on one side
30:33SPEAKERand nano on the other.
30:34SPEAKER- Oh really?
30:35SPEAKER- I haven't used the double-sided nanotape really.
30:36SPEAKER- That's what we have.
30:37SPEAKERThat's what I have on my PS5 is it's nano on both sides.
30:41SPEAKER- Huh.
30:42SPEAKER- Oh, there you go.
30:43SPEAKER- Gotta get that double nano.
30:44SPEAKERI feel like I'm gonna get a roll of the double nano
30:46SPEAKERjust so I can double double-side stuff when I need to.
30:49SPEAKER- It's great for something like that
30:50SPEAKERwhere you don't want crappy adhesive residue on your PS5
30:53SPEAKERwhen you take it off, right?
30:54SPEAKER- Oh yeah.
30:55SPEAKERWell, and it lasts forever, man.
30:56SPEAKERLike, 'cause you just take it off,
30:57SPEAKERyou kind of rinse it off and it's good to go again.
30:59SPEAKERIt's magic.
31:00SPEAKER- Pretty much, pretty much.
31:01SPEAKERUnless you stick it to something
31:02SPEAKERthat were a bunch of bits of junk come off,
31:04SPEAKERlittle bits of wood or something.
31:06SPEAKER- Nobody likes junk.
31:07SPEAKERSee another thing people like battery packs.
31:11SPEAKERThere's a whole lot going on
31:12SPEAKERin the battery pack market right now.
31:14SPEAKERThere are battery packs that will charge your laptop.
31:19SPEAKER- Yeah, I saw. - Which is bananas.
31:20SPEAKER- I saw like there, I was looking at an Anker.
31:22SPEAKERAnker, Anker?
31:24SPEAKER- Anker.
31:24SPEAKER- Are you an Anker?
31:26SPEAKER- That's, my understanding is that's how they pronounce it.
31:28SPEAKER- Okay.
31:29SPEAKERI saw an ad for one the other day that,
31:30SPEAKERfirst of all, it has a straight up wall outlet in it.
31:33SPEAKER- Yeah, 120 watts, I think is what it said, which is low.
31:36SPEAKER- And also the output,
31:37SPEAKERthe output is such that you can straight up
31:39SPEAKERrun a little laptop off of it, which is just nuts.
31:41SPEAKER- Yeah, they're doing ones that are more
31:44SPEAKERfor like disaster preparedness stuff now
31:48SPEAKERthat are bigger and have flashlights
31:50SPEAKERand stuff like that on them now.
31:51SPEAKER- Oh yeah, I think this one did have a flashlight.
31:53SPEAKERThat's awesome.
31:55SPEAKER- I think having one of those in your house
31:57SPEAKERis incredibly useful if the power goes out
31:59SPEAKERor something like that, just so you can,
32:01SPEAKERlike it gives you a way to charge your,
32:03SPEAKERyou can charge that in your car when the power is out
32:07SPEAKERand it gives you a way to charge your phone overnight
32:08SPEAKERor whatever without having to jump through a bunch of hoops
32:11SPEAKERif your power's out for awhile.
32:12SPEAKER- Yeah.
32:13SPEAKER- I would say get the Anker ones with the power IQ stuff,
32:17SPEAKERcharge everything at the full speed,
32:19SPEAKERwhich is kind of what you want.
32:20SPEAKERLike the less time you spend plugged into that thing,
32:22SPEAKERthe better off you are.
32:23SPEAKER- Yeah, I started to ask if you think that
32:25SPEAKERone of the ones with wireless charging is worth having,
32:27SPEAKERbut I think you just answered that question
32:29SPEAKERbecause like you said,
32:30SPEAKERyou wanna charge stuff as fast as possible
32:32SPEAKERand that's not the fastest way to do it.
32:33SPEAKER- Well, and the wireless charging
32:35SPEAKERreduces the efficiency a lot.
32:36SPEAKERSo you're gonna lose X percentage of,
32:39SPEAKERlike you're just piping a bunch of the energy
32:42SPEAKERthat's stored in the battery off into the ether,
32:43SPEAKERwhich if you're like just need extra charge
32:47SPEAKERat the end of your workday,
32:49SPEAKERthen yeah, it's fine to do the wireless charging.
32:51SPEAKERIf you're in a disaster situation,
32:53SPEAKERyou don't know when the power's going back on,
32:54SPEAKERyou don't wanna waste any of the juice in the battery.
32:58SPEAKERAlso, if you need that because your phone dies
33:02SPEAKERat the end of the day when you're sitting at your desk,
33:03SPEAKERjust buy a USB charge.
33:04SPEAKER- Yeah, I was gonna say if you know somebody
33:07SPEAKERwho works at home or even in an office,
33:09SPEAKERif they don't have wireless charging stand for their phone,
33:12SPEAKERthat is a great little 15, 20, $30 thing.
33:14SPEAKER- Yeah, they're really good.
33:15SPEAKERI have some of them online. - It's very useful.
33:16SPEAKERVery, very handy to have.
33:19SPEAKER- Let's see, another thing people recommended, AeroPress.
33:21SPEAKER- Yeah, there was all the coffee talk in there.
33:24SPEAKER- Look, they got into the dark side of the coffee,
33:27SPEAKERcoffee where there was talk of a bribing
33:29SPEAKERand all sorts of other strange stuff.
33:30SPEAKER- Did you say bribing?
33:32SPEAKER- It's called the brew pipe.
33:33SPEAKERIt's a little copper pipe that you put the coffee in,
33:35SPEAKERyou torch it with the water
33:37SPEAKERwhile you suck the water through it
33:38SPEAKERand you sip out of it with a cork end on a strip.
33:42SPEAKERLook, I have questions about the bribe.
33:45SPEAKER- Is this drugs?
33:47SPEAKER- It looks like drugs.
33:48SPEAKER- It sounds like drugs.
33:50SPEAKER- But the AeroPress is a...
33:52SPEAKERI've been using AeroPresses off and on.
33:54SPEAKERI don't use them all that much anymore
33:55SPEAKER'cause they don't make as much coffee as I need in the house.
33:57SPEAKERBut the AeroPress is a really good way
33:59SPEAKERto make one cup of coffee.
34:02SPEAKERAnd you should not follow the instructions
34:03SPEAKERthat come with it when you use it.
34:04SPEAKERYou should look up on the YouTube's
34:06SPEAKERhow to brew coffee with an AeroPress.
34:08SPEAKER- And follow those instructions.
34:09SPEAKER- Yeah, I do feel like whoever is the recipient
34:12SPEAKERof any kind of single serving coffee method
34:15SPEAKERneeds to be pretty serious about coffee.
34:18SPEAKER- If you're used to just hitting the button
34:20SPEAKERon the Mr. Coffee and dumping in your Folgers,
34:23SPEAKERit's gonna be a lot of work for you.
34:24SPEAKER- I mean, we have a burr grinder and a decent drip filter.
34:27SPEAKERIt's not a Mr. Coffee,
34:29SPEAKERbut we definitely are fall out of bed
34:31SPEAKERand press the button on the machine, people.
34:33SPEAKER- Do you grind the coffee the night before?
34:35SPEAKER- Yes, which I know is not ideal.
34:37SPEAKER- Yeah, I see.
34:38SPEAKER- Well, look, I'm not gonna judge you.
34:40SPEAKER- When it's my responsibility to make the coffee,
34:44SPEAKERbut then the other party is getting up at 5 a.m.
34:46SPEAKERto go to work, I'm grinding the night before.
34:50SPEAKER- Fair, fair. - Does that make sense?
34:52SPEAKER- Yeah, when your cohabitant wakes up at the wee hours
34:56SPEAKERand wants a cuppa.
34:57SPEAKER- But it's the expectation
34:58SPEAKERthat I am going to have that ready.
35:00SPEAKER- Yeah. - I'm gonna do it
35:01SPEAKERthe night before.
35:02SPEAKERI mean, is it really that bad?
35:04SPEAKER- No, it doesn't.
35:05SPEAKERI mean, look, it's fine.
35:07SPEAKER- Yeah.
35:08SPEAKER- Yeah, you're losing a little bit, but who cares?
35:10SPEAKERLike, you're also not getting woken up
35:11SPEAKERat 4.40 in the morning to make the coffee.
35:13SPEAKER- Yeah, the main thing I would say is just like,
35:15SPEAKERdon't give elaborate coffee-making stuff like this
35:17SPEAKERto somebody unless you know for sure they're down for it,
35:19SPEAKERbecause like, it's possible.
35:20SPEAKERLike, I bought one of the cone filters a few years ago
35:23SPEAKERand then kind of found that I wasn't really down
35:26SPEAKERfor the labor involved in pour over.
35:29SPEAKER- Yeah, I mean, look, me making a cup of coffee
35:32SPEAKERis about a six-minute process if I have the water warm.
35:36SPEAKER- Okay.
35:37SPEAKER- It's like, I have to have, it's taken me a long time
35:39SPEAKERto get that to a six-minute process, right?
35:41SPEAKER- Right, right.
35:42SPEAKERActually, it wasn't just the labor.
35:43SPEAKERI also was just bad at it.
35:44SPEAKERLike, the amount of sediment I was getting
35:46SPEAKERwas like overwhelming and stuff like that.
35:48SPEAKERSo like, it's a definite commitment.
35:50SPEAKER- Well, there's a skill.
35:51SPEAKERAnd also, people's coffee taste varies dramatically.
35:54SPEAKERLike, the thing that we often talked about
35:57SPEAKERwhen I was doing a lot of coffee stuff at Tested
35:58SPEAKERis that the kind of coffee brewing technique
36:01SPEAKERthat people like is basically what they grew up with, right?
36:04SPEAKERLike, what their parents had.
36:05SPEAKERSo if your parents were percolator people,
36:07SPEAKERyou probably like a really heavy, heavy cup
36:09SPEAKERwith a lot of body and a lot of stuff happening in there.
36:12SPEAKERIf you were a filter, drip filter people,
36:14SPEAKERyou like a lighter coffee.
36:17SPEAKERIf you put cream and sugar in it, who knows what you like,
36:19SPEAKERbecause you can't really taste the coffee.
36:24SPEAKERSo like, what they like is gonna change based on that.
36:26SPEAKERIf you don't know what they like,
36:28SPEAKERbut you know they like to do pour overs,
36:29SPEAKERyou can get them a pour over kettle,
36:30SPEAKERbut that gets out of the inexpensive
36:32SPEAKERand into the like, the 100 bucks range pretty quickly.
36:35SPEAKER- You know what is coffee related
36:37SPEAKERand is squarely in that inexpensive realm?
36:40SPEAKER- What, Brad?
36:41SPEAKER- A heated coaster, a heated pad, a heated-
36:45SPEAKER- Oh, like a warmer.
36:47SPEAKER- Coffee warmer, coffee cup warmer.
36:49SPEAKER- I've never had one of those.
36:50SPEAKER- I have one right here.
36:51SPEAKER- Do you use it?
36:52SPEAKER- Yeah, I'm using it right now.
36:53SPEAKER- Oh, does it work?
36:54SPEAKER- Yeah.
36:56SPEAKERIt generates heat, warms the coffee cup,
36:58SPEAKERand therefore the coffee within.
37:00SPEAKER- Does it keep the coffee hot or just from getting cold?
37:05SPEAKER- Warm enough, for sure.
37:06SPEAKER- Okay, drinkable.
37:07SPEAKER- Yeah, definitely.
37:08SPEAKER- That's a good one.
37:09SPEAKER- It was under 20 bucks.
37:10SPEAKERLike I don't even, I couldn't even tell you the brand.
37:12SPEAKERI mean, there were like,
37:13SPEAKERit was one of those things where there are three of them
37:15SPEAKERthat are identical on Amazon, all in different brands.
37:17SPEAKERLike it's that situation.
37:18SPEAKERI'm sure you can get,
37:19SPEAKERI think there are like Mr. Coffee branded ones
37:21SPEAKERif you want to buy like a name you've heard of,
37:24SPEAKERbut they're like 20, 25 bucks for, you know,
37:27SPEAKERsome basic temperature control, nothing fancy.
37:29SPEAKERYou're not like, you're not punching at a number,
37:32SPEAKERbut it'll have like two modes of like hot and hotter.
37:35SPEAKER- Does it plug into the wall
37:36SPEAKERor in the back of the computer?
37:36SPEAKER- Yes, there are USB powered ones, but I didn't want to.
37:40SPEAKER- Seems risky.
37:41SPEAKER- Yeah, I would rather go into the mains.
37:45SPEAKER- I have some friends who will remain nameless,
37:47SPEAKERwho have those stupid Ember mugs,
37:50SPEAKERthe ones that-
37:51SPEAKER- You literally wrote stupid mugs in the show notes,
37:53SPEAKERand I figured there was a story.
37:55SPEAKER- Look, so yeah, a few years ago,
37:57SPEAKERthey're really, they're like 150 or 200 bucks.
37:59SPEAKERThey're really expensive.
38:00SPEAKER- Dang.
38:01SPEAKER- They have a battery built in
38:02SPEAKERand it uses inductive charging.
38:04SPEAKERAnd since it's supposed to be washable,
38:06SPEAKERand I assume the dishwasher, but maybe just by hand,
38:08SPEAKERit's all completely sealed.
38:10SPEAKERSo like, once the battery goes, the thing is useless.
38:12SPEAKER- Yes.
38:13SPEAKER- And like, after talking to Kyle a couple of weeks ago,
38:16SPEAKERI just want nothing to do with that.
38:17SPEAKER- Yeah, I remember when those got popular
38:19SPEAKERwhen they first came out and I,
38:21SPEAKERthose things really raised my hackles
38:23SPEAKERabout combining an everyday item
38:24SPEAKERwith something that is very expendable or prone to failure.
38:28SPEAKER- You get turning a thing
38:29SPEAKERthat you should be able to use for,
38:30SPEAKERthe most of a lifetime into a consumable
38:34SPEAKERfeels really icky to me.
38:35SPEAKER- Something that might die in 18 months or two years.
38:37SPEAKERYes, that's, ugh, no.
38:40SPEAKER- Another thing that people recommended
38:42SPEAKERis something that I had coincidentally already ordered
38:44SPEAKERlast week to set up my new desk,
38:47SPEAKERbut these Grid-It cable organizers.
38:49SPEAKER- Yes.
38:50SPEAKER- They have 3M sticky stuff on one side.
38:52SPEAKER- Grid-It.
38:53SPEAKER- I'll show you, they're stuck together right now, hold on.
38:56SPEAKER- I assume that's a brand, it's Grid-It.
38:58SPEAKER- I believe that is a brand, yes.
39:00SPEAKERGrid-It.
39:02SPEAKER- As you, as you.
39:04SPEAKER- They're super stuck, I didn't anticipate this.
39:06SPEAKER- As you yank and tug on whatever you're doing there.
39:08SPEAKER- Yeah, this is, well.
39:10SPEAKER- I will say.
39:11SPEAKER- So they've got these channels
39:14SPEAKERand in between the channels, you put your cables.
39:17SPEAKER- Oh, so this sits on a desk and just kind of routes cables?
39:20SPEAKER- Well, you stick them up,
39:20SPEAKERthe idea is you stick them up underneath the desk
39:23SPEAKERand then they route your,
39:25SPEAKERthey'll hold the cables in place, even upside down.
39:27SPEAKER- Okay.
39:28SPEAKER- So those look a little more modular than the,
39:30SPEAKERI've got these very old IKEA kind of metal.
39:34SPEAKERI can't remember the,
39:35SPEAKERwe've talked about stuff like that before,
39:36SPEAKERbut I will say in general,
39:39SPEAKERcable management is a gift you give yourself,
39:41SPEAKERlet alone give to someone else.
39:43SPEAKER- Like, yeah, I mean, look, it might be,
39:45SPEAKERif you've given your friend grief
39:46SPEAKERabout their cable management sitch,
39:48SPEAKERmaybe don't do cable management.
39:49SPEAKER- Well, no, but I'm saying is that you cannot overstate
39:53SPEAKERthe value of cleaning up your workspace.
39:54SPEAKERI mean, like, I know some people have a higher tolerance
39:57SPEAKERfor clutter than others, mine is very low,
39:59SPEAKERbut I don't think there's anybody that would not benefit
40:03SPEAKERfrom organizing and tidying just a bit.
40:05SPEAKER- Yeah, there you go.
40:07SPEAKERSo you want to go down,
40:08SPEAKERlike we each also made some lists of things that we liked?
40:11SPEAKER- Yeah, sure.
40:13SPEAKERI will, so let me preface this by saying,
40:15SPEAKERlike, I am terrible to buy gifts for
40:17SPEAKER'cause I can't ever tell anybody what I want.
40:19SPEAKERLike, honestly, I can't remember the last time
40:22SPEAKERI got a Christmas gift from somebody
40:23SPEAKERbecause I've just been telling people for years,
40:24SPEAKERlike, don't buy me stuff.
40:25SPEAKERLike, I don't, there's nothing I need, it's cool.
40:30SPEAKERLet's just hang out, let's go out to eat.
40:32SPEAKER- Well, like I, so I find that like,
40:38SPEAKERwell, I mean, you don't play board games,
40:39SPEAKERbut like board games are a good one, I find often.
40:42SPEAKER- If there's like a category of thing that people like
40:44SPEAKERwhere you can get new ones that are slightly different,
40:46SPEAKERthen yeah, that works.
40:47SPEAKER- Yeah, I bought a set of these L.L. Bean sleep pants
40:50SPEAKERearlier this year, they're kind of expensive at 50 bucks,
40:54SPEAKERbut they're flannel and they're always the right temperature.
40:57SPEAKERYou know how sometimes like your flannel pants
40:59SPEAKERare too hot or they're not hot enough?
41:00SPEAKER- I started to say, is it cold enough down there for flannel?
41:03SPEAKERBut I guess this is the magic flannel.
41:04SPEAKER- Always cold enough for flannel, it's really,
41:08SPEAKERit's always wet in Pacifica.
41:09SPEAKER- Sure. - Yeah.
41:11SPEAKERThe thing we talked about last year a little bit
41:13SPEAKERwere the Uniqlo fleecy sweatpants,
41:15SPEAKERand those things are too hot.
41:17SPEAKERIt has to be cold to wear those.
41:19SPEAKER- Sure. - They'll make my legs
41:20SPEAKERget warm. - Yes.
41:22SPEAKER- But they're awesome if you live someplace cold.
41:24SPEAKER- Yeah, that I believe.
41:26SPEAKER- I like a key chain pry bar.
41:30SPEAKERI used to always carry a pocket knife or a multi-tool,
41:32SPEAKERand then I stopped doing that
41:33SPEAKER'cause I was getting on airplanes a lot
41:34SPEAKERand donated a couple of Leatherman to the TSA.
41:38SPEAKER- I wonder where those end up.
41:39SPEAKER- They go into some destruction thing by reports.
41:43SPEAKERThat's what I was told.
41:44SPEAKER- That's a shame.
41:45SPEAKERThat's a shame.
41:47SPEAKERI know actually, well, I can't say for sure,
41:49SPEAKERbut I know back home at the state and county level,
41:52SPEAKERthey would auction off stuff that was like impounded
41:54SPEAKERand confiscated.
41:55SPEAKERThat's how I ended up with Joey the Knife
41:57SPEAKERthat people may remember from the early WhiskeyMedia days.
42:00SPEAKER- You got Joey the Knife at a TSA impound?
42:03SPEAKER- Not TSA, but my dad bought it
42:04SPEAKERat a police auction of like impounded.
42:08SPEAKERSomebody lost Joey, somebody probably named Joey,
42:11SPEAKERlost Joey in some kind of police altercation.
42:13SPEAKER- Wow.
42:15SPEAKERBut yeah, so the key chain pry bar is a tool
42:18SPEAKERthat exists solely so you don't use your keys
42:20SPEAKERto do things that you shouldn't use keys for,
42:22SPEAKERlike prying shit apart.
42:24SPEAKERThe one I like is the Gerber mini shard.
42:26SPEAKERIt's like seven bucks.
42:28SPEAKER- Is that different from,
42:29SPEAKERso I've always heard it as just Gerber shard.
42:31SPEAKERIs the mini shard a different model?
42:32SPEAKER- I think the mini shard is the official name.
42:34SPEAKER- Oh, okay.
42:35SPEAKERSo it's, okay, that's the one.
42:36SPEAKER- But yeah, basically it's like a three
42:38SPEAKERand a half inch long piece of steel.
42:41SPEAKER- It has no moving parts.
42:42SPEAKER- No moving parts, nothing sharp.
42:44SPEAKERIt has a bottle opener.
42:46SPEAKERIt has a little bit of a flat screwdriver.
42:48SPEAKERIt has a terrible Phillips screwdriver
42:50SPEAKERthat if you need, like if you don't have
42:53SPEAKERa Phillips screwdriver and you need a Phillips screwdriver,
42:55SPEAKERit's the best thing ever,
42:56SPEAKERbut otherwise you should never ever use it.
42:57SPEAKER- Yeah, it takes forever to unscrew stuff.
43:00SPEAKER- I mean, you gotta take it off your key chain
43:02SPEAKERand it's just a process.
43:04SPEAKERBut the main thing is the big flat pry wedge
43:07SPEAKERwith a nail puller and you can get,
43:09SPEAKERI've gotten nails out of there.
43:10SPEAKERI've pried stuff apart that needed to be pried.
43:12SPEAKERIt's a really useful thing.
43:14SPEAKER- Apparently it has a wire stripper on it
43:15SPEAKERaccording to their site.
43:17SPEAKER- That's in the inside of the nail puller thing, yeah.
43:18SPEAKER- Yeah, it's pretty handy.
43:20SPEAKER- And so I have a flight days after the time
43:22SPEAKERof this recording and I've never flown with mine before.
43:26SPEAKER- I've flown with mine a bazillion times.
43:27SPEAKER- So it's definitely 100% TSA approved.
43:30SPEAKER- I mean, look, what is TSA approved
43:33SPEAKERand what is not TSA approved is always ultimately
43:35SPEAKERup to the discretion of the person at the gate.
43:37SPEAKER- Extremely true.
43:38SPEAKER- Yeah, so, but I mean, worst case you lose it,
43:40SPEAKERyou're out seven bucks is the way I look at it
43:42SPEAKERversus minimum of like 30 for a Leatherman, so.
43:45SPEAKER- There's nothing on there that qualifies as a blade, right?
43:48SPEAKER- Assuming you don't sharpen up the front bits, no.
43:51SPEAKER- But you could use that point as a box opener maybe?
43:55SPEAKERLook, maybe I've...
43:57SPEAKER- The wire cutter thing, if you get it in,
43:59SPEAKERif you get the tape into the sharp part of the wire cutter,
44:01SPEAKERit's perfect for opening boxes.
44:02SPEAKER- I see, interesting.
44:04SPEAKER- But it would also be very hard to stab someone with.
44:06SPEAKER- Yes, yes.
44:07SPEAKER- Way less deadly than say a pen.
44:10SPEAKER- Like I think my parents gave me my shard in a stocking,
44:14SPEAKERlike quite literally, like it is the perfect stocking stuffer.
44:17SPEAKER- Exactly, it's perfect for that.
44:20SPEAKERAnker, like pads for key devices or MagSafe chargers
44:24SPEAKERfor people who have iPhone 12s and newer are awesome.
44:27SPEAKERLike a lot of people don't realize
44:28SPEAKERthat their phones are contactless,
44:30SPEAKERespecially if you've not been paying attention
44:31SPEAKERto the newer phones.
44:33SPEAKER- Yeah.
44:34SPEAKER- And having just setting the phone down
44:36SPEAKERon the thing at nighttime and letting it charge
44:37SPEAKERis a lovely upgrade.
44:39SPEAKER- Yeah, it's probably worth,
44:40SPEAKERif you're gonna buy that for somebody,
44:41SPEAKERit's probably worth looking into what their case situation is
44:43SPEAKER'cause people that have like the big fat cases
44:45SPEAKERthat put all their say credit cards
44:47SPEAKERand ID and stuff in there,
44:48SPEAKERor what are the little pop disc things
44:51SPEAKERthat people use for grip? - Oh yeah, the pop sockets.
44:53SPEAKER- Pop sockets, stuff like,
44:53SPEAKERstuff that mounts on the back of a phone case
44:55SPEAKERwill probably prevent them from using a wireless charger.
44:58SPEAKER- Yeah, if you have a big magnetic pad
45:00SPEAKERin between your case and your phone
45:03SPEAKERso that you can use like a magnetic holder in your car
45:05SPEAKERor something like that, that'll block it too.
45:07SPEAKER- Yeah.
45:09SPEAKER- Socks?
45:10SPEAKER- Yeah.
45:11SPEAKER- Man.
45:12SPEAKER(laughing)
45:13SPEAKER- I've said that this is one of the most profound,
45:15SPEAKERI'm an adult now moments of my life
45:17SPEAKERwas realizing that I had gotten to the point
45:18SPEAKERwhere I enjoyed getting socks and underwear for Christmas.
45:21SPEAKER- Let me tell you, man,
45:23SPEAKERif you buy a pair of $25 smart wool socks for someone,
45:26SPEAKERyou are going to make a friend for life.
45:28SPEAKER- Yeah, that good.
45:31SPEAKER- Their high-end socks are these,
45:33SPEAKERthey call them mountaineering socks.
45:35SPEAKERAnd they're, I assume for like people
45:36SPEAKERwho are climbing Everest and stuff like that,
45:39SPEAKERthey're like a half an inch thick, right?
45:41SPEAKER- Okay.
45:42SPEAKERThey're basically like a slipper that ensconces your feet.
45:45SPEAKERYou probably don't wear them with shoes on,
45:47SPEAKERmaybe with slippers, I don't know.
45:48SPEAKER- It's like you need a shoe a half a size too big
45:50SPEAKERto fit them in there.
45:51SPEAKER- You need a big old chunky shoe to work these,
45:54SPEAKERbut they're so cozy and warm and it's like winter day,
45:58SPEAKERyou're having some hot chocolate,
46:00SPEAKERjust for outside in the snow,
46:01SPEAKERyou come back and you pull those things on,
46:02SPEAKERyou put on your fleece sleep pants
46:04SPEAKERand you're gonna cozy right up.
46:07SPEAKER- Do you ever wish, I mean,
46:09SPEAKERanybody that listens to the show from say,
46:12SPEAKERlike Minneapolis or Chicago is probably going to throw things
46:14SPEAKERat their phone or speaker right now,
46:17SPEAKERbut do you ever wish you lived in a colder environment
46:20SPEAKERso you could do more fun cold weather stuff?
46:22SPEAKER- I miss it, yeah.
46:23SPEAKER- I super do, I super like wish I had a reason to bundle up
46:26SPEAKERand build a fire and like wear an overcoat
46:29SPEAKERand stuff like that.
46:30SPEAKER- We're gonna go to snow this winter
46:32SPEAKER'cause the kiddo hasn't been in a long time.
46:34SPEAKER- Yeah, that's the thing to do.
46:36SPEAKERBut then talk to people who live in those places
46:39SPEAKERabout shoveling snow and then you'll feel better
46:42SPEAKERpretty quickly.
46:42SPEAKER- Get a snowblower.
46:43SPEAKERGina and I put our, like Gina did the New York Times,
46:47SPEAKERwhere should you live quiz thing the other day
46:49SPEAKER'cause they did the, here are the criteria
46:51SPEAKERfor all the different places that like,
46:53SPEAKERyeah, you put in what you like.
46:55SPEAKERAnd eight of the 10 were in Minnesota, so.
47:00SPEAKER- Wow, geez.
47:02SPEAKER- I gotta find out what the fiber situation in Minnesota is.
47:06SPEAKERLet's see, the other thing, I got a fountain pen this year,
47:08SPEAKERsomebody gave me a fountain pen and it's--
47:10SPEAKER- I was kind of excited to get to your bullet point
47:12SPEAKERabout fountain pens because I want to know,
47:15SPEAKERI wanna hear your pitch.
47:16SPEAKER- It feels really good to write.
47:18SPEAKER- Yeah, does it really?
47:19SPEAKER- Everybody says that, but it just kind of glides across.
47:22SPEAKERLike you don't, there's no pressure, there's no pushing.
47:25SPEAKERIt just kind of, like you just kind of float it
47:27SPEAKERjust above the pen, above the paper.
47:30SPEAKERAnd it makes really lovely ink marks
47:32SPEAKERwithout a whole lot of, like I'm right-handed, so.
47:35SPEAKER- Well, you can't see it, but yeah.
47:37SPEAKER- Yeah, it's green screen.
47:38SPEAKER- Background removal is killing that.
47:39SPEAKERCan I see the pen again?
47:40SPEAKER- Yeah, this is--
47:42SPEAKER- Does it feel scratchy?
47:43SPEAKERI've always, I've always thought--
47:45SPEAKER- If you're pushing too hard, I think it feels scratchy.
47:47SPEAKER- I always thought that a fountain pen,
47:48SPEAKERI've never used one, would feel like
47:49SPEAKERa little too nails on chalkboard scratchy
47:52SPEAKERwhen you're writing with it.
47:53SPEAKER- Well, so the fountain pen experience I had before
47:55SPEAKERwas always like the manual kind
47:57SPEAKERthat you have to suck the ink up into
47:58SPEAKERand then you push them back down.
48:00SPEAKER- Which frankly is kind of what I was envisioning here
48:02SPEAKERuntil you showed me your much more kind of space age one.
48:05SPEAKER- Well, so yeah, this one uses,
48:06SPEAKERthe modern ones use these cartridges, oh shit,
48:09SPEAKERyou can't see that, but it's basically like a big,
48:11SPEAKERit's a big tube of ink and you jam it in
48:13SPEAKERwhen you screw the cap on, then it punctures it
48:16SPEAKERand it then starts running down.
48:18SPEAKERThe cap seal pretty well,
48:19SPEAKERso I don't think I'm gonna have leakage problems,
48:21SPEAKERI don't know.
48:22SPEAKER- How do you store it once the ink is breached like that?
48:25SPEAKER- Put it on my desk.
48:26SPEAKER- Do you store it upside down?
48:28SPEAKER- No, it just works itself out.
48:30SPEAKERI don't know, capillary action, something, magic.
48:33SPEAKER- Ink does not go everywhere?
48:34SPEAKER- The ink doesn't go everywhere.
48:36SPEAKER- Okay.
48:38SPEAKER- And then the last one is
48:39SPEAKERlike a really good set of screwdrivers.
48:41SPEAKERLike--
48:42SPEAKER- Are we talking electronic screwdrivers?
48:44SPEAKER- I mean, it depends on the person, right?
48:46SPEAKERLike everybody needs screwdrivers though,
48:48SPEAKERlike small set of screwdrivers with all the torques
48:51SPEAKERand the Phillips head and like the,
48:54SPEAKERif you think about the most common,
48:56SPEAKERit's like a standard Phillips, torques and hex.
48:59SPEAKERAnd if you give somebody a set that has those five things
49:02SPEAKERand they can do a lot of stuff,
49:04SPEAKERI like the iFixit ones with the spinny tops,
49:07SPEAKERbut there's a bunch of other good sets out there too.
49:09SPEAKER- Yeah, they're all over Amazon these days.
49:11SPEAKEROne of the nice benefits of those things
49:12SPEAKERis you start to, by osmosis,
49:14SPEAKERabsorb some of the kind of official specifications
49:18SPEAKERfor those different, what's the term, bits?
49:22SPEAKER- Yeah.
49:23SPEAKER- Like, you know, like a double zero or like a wide--
49:26SPEAKER- Oh, the sizes, yeah.
49:27SPEAKER- Sizes and configurations.
49:29SPEAKERLike, oh, this is a tri-wing.
49:30SPEAKERLike, oh, this is a double zero.
49:31SPEAKERThis is a, there's a quadruple zero, right?
49:33SPEAKER- Only Nintendo uses the tri-wing.
49:35SPEAKERThe quadruple zero is a small, super small torques,
49:38SPEAKERI think, right? - Right, right.
49:38SPEAKERBut that's a, you know, and like a good set like that
49:41SPEAKERwill have them all laid out and labeled
49:42SPEAKERso you can kind of like just stare at them
49:44SPEAKERand get some sense of what's what.
49:46SPEAKERLike--
49:47SPEAKER- There's even sizes on Phillips.
49:48SPEAKER- Right, like it's, I'll say this,
49:50SPEAKERlike it's super nice to go to like an iFixit guide
49:52SPEAKERor something and where they say like,
49:53SPEAKERoh, you need this screwdriver and this one at these sizes
49:56SPEAKERand you just open your big foldy case thing
49:58SPEAKERand they're all right there and you just pluck them out.
50:00SPEAKER- You're much less likely to round out a screw too
50:03SPEAKERif you use the right size head driver, yeah.
50:08SPEAKER- I jotted a few down here.
50:11SPEAKEROne thing we have is a charging station,
50:14SPEAKERwhich might conjure the image of something
50:18SPEAKERwith a lot of electronics in it,
50:19SPEAKERbut ours is literally just a piece of furniture.
50:20SPEAKERI mean, it's like a, it's all like bamboo.
50:23SPEAKERIt's basically two pieces of bamboo with magnets
50:25SPEAKERso the top comes off, it's hollow inside
50:28SPEAKERand you run cables for, it's basically slotted
50:31SPEAKERand kind of shelved.
50:33SPEAKER- Oh, so like the device is slotted in vertically?
50:35SPEAKER- Kind of, yes.
50:37SPEAKERSo ours, I mean, they're all different configurations
50:38SPEAKERout there, but ours is essentially sort of two tablet slots,
50:41SPEAKERlike two slots in the back that are iPad size
50:44SPEAKERand then in the front,
50:45SPEAKERthree little segmented spots for phones.
50:47SPEAKER- Oh, okay.
50:49SPEAKER- And there are a bunch of little holes
50:50SPEAKERand like routing internally,
50:52SPEAKERthere's a big hole in the back
50:53SPEAKERand you just route cables through
50:54SPEAKERand out these little holes in the front.
50:56SPEAKERSo you can plug all your phones and tablets and stuff
50:59SPEAKERall in at the same time.
50:59SPEAKERSo the big point is that it hides all the cable mess.
51:01SPEAKER- That's awesome.
51:02SPEAKER- Like we have it on an end table, like console table
51:05SPEAKERwith all the cables just invisibly running down behind it
51:08SPEAKERinto a surge protector.
51:09SPEAKER- What do you do for charging controllers, Brad?
51:12SPEAKER- I typically just plug those into the front of the consoles
51:15SPEAKERlike a Philistine.
51:17SPEAKERI actually--
51:18SPEAKER- And just hide them until they're charged.
51:19SPEAKER- I don't have a, yeah, I just like,
51:20SPEAKERI use one until, I don't run them all the way down,
51:23SPEAKERI run them like halfway down.
51:25SPEAKER- Okay.
51:25SPEAKER- I usually, at least on the PS5 until,
51:28SPEAKERlike when I hit one bar on a controller
51:30SPEAKERis when I plug it in.
51:31SPEAKER- Okay.
51:32SPEAKER- But I just grab a cable out of the drawer
51:34SPEAKERand stick it in front of the console.
51:36SPEAKERWhy do you, do you have a--
51:37SPEAKER- No, I kind of wondered 'cause like with all the kids
51:40SPEAKERand with the kiddo stuff and like three consoles
51:43SPEAKERin the living room, again, we are faced with a problem.
51:45SPEAKER- Sure, yeah, that's not a bad gift idea, actually.
51:49SPEAKERThere's all kinds of charging stand options.
51:51SPEAKERLike Sony makes an official PS5 controller charging stand.
51:54SPEAKERI think Microsoft has something similar.
51:56SPEAKER- Yeah.
51:57SPEAKER- Except that you'd also have to buy
51:58SPEAKERthe rechargeable battery kit for the Xbox.
52:00SPEAKER- Well, yeah, I use Eneloops in the Xbox controllers,
52:02SPEAKERbut the PS5, like I need something that does a PS5
52:06SPEAKERand I guess the Switch Pro controllers,
52:08SPEAKERthose are the two that end up getting used the most here.
52:10SPEAKER- I wouldn't be surprised if there's some like combo
52:13SPEAKERstands out there, like from like Madcast
52:15SPEAKERor somebody like that.
52:16SPEAKER- I mean, they're both USB-C, right?
52:17SPEAKER- Yes, actually now that you mention it, yes.
52:21SPEAKEROh, retractable cables while we're here.
52:24SPEAKERRetractable cables are still going strong
52:26SPEAKERand we kind of have been advocating them for years.
52:29SPEAKER- Yeah, I want something that like is a base
52:31SPEAKERthat I can just retract the cables back into when I'm done.
52:33SPEAKER- So that's kind of what this charge stand is like
52:36SPEAKERthat I was talking about, that bamboo thing we have,
52:37SPEAKERbecause the cables don't poke out.
52:39SPEAKERThey are like, there's just enough give on them
52:41SPEAKERto kind of pull them up out of the hole and plug them in,
52:43SPEAKERbut then you set the phone back down
52:45SPEAKERand the cable kind of disappears underneath it.
52:47SPEAKER- That sounds awesome.
52:48SPEAKER- So we routinely will have like both iPads,
52:50SPEAKERa Kindle and two phones charging on that station
52:52SPEAKERall at the same time and there's like no visible cables.
52:54SPEAKERIt's super tidy.
52:55SPEAKER- That sounds rad.
52:59SPEAKER- What else do we have here?
53:00SPEAKERWe talked a little bit about disaster preparedness stuff.
53:03SPEAKERI feel like in these times it's not the worst idea
53:06SPEAKERto have a little extra stuff around.
53:09SPEAKERYou mentioned like having a flashlight is cool.
53:11SPEAKERI mean, other than having one probably on a battery bank
53:13SPEAKERis the way to go.
53:14SPEAKERI don't think a hand crank is necessarily super useful.
53:18SPEAKER- I like having a headlamp and a flashlight,
53:21SPEAKERbut part of that's due to dog walking and part of it's like,
53:25SPEAKERI mean, we always also always have a bazillion
53:27SPEAKERdouble A's and triple A's around.
53:28SPEAKERSo it's like less of a problem.
53:29SPEAKER- My dad always swore by surefire flashlights.
53:32SPEAKERI can't, that's the sum total of my experience
53:36SPEAKERwith that brand is through him.
53:37SPEAKERSo I can't speak to other options.
53:40SPEAKER- So I've had really good luck buying anything,
53:43SPEAKERanybody that uses Cree bulbs for flashlights.
53:45SPEAKER- Okay.
53:48SPEAKER- That's basically my criteria for when I buy,
53:50SPEAKERwhat flashlights I buy.
53:51SPEAKERAnd I want stuff that uses normal batteries,
53:53SPEAKERnot weird lithium batteries.
53:55SPEAKER- Yeah, that is a downside of the surefire stuff
53:57SPEAKERis it's a specific battery you have to get.
54:00SPEAKERI think we talked about this
54:01SPEAKERon the disaster preparedness episode ages ago,
54:03SPEAKERbut like a hand crank radio,
54:04SPEAKERlike the one I have has a flashlight built into it.
54:06SPEAKERIt has a little battery that'll charge slowly
54:08SPEAKERas you crank it.
54:11SPEAKER- We got one a few years ago for giving money to NPR
54:14SPEAKERthat has a little solar panel on the top
54:16SPEAKERthat'll charge it too.
54:17SPEAKER- Yeah, this also has that, yeah.
54:18SPEAKER- Yeah, that's pretty useful.
54:20SPEAKER- Some stuff like that to have around, I think is nice.
54:23SPEAKERThere's a couple suggestions out of that gift channel
54:26SPEAKERthat I enjoyed.
54:27SPEAKERWe have a weighted blanket,
54:29SPEAKERbut I can't overstate how nice a weighted blanket is.
54:33SPEAKER- I've never had a weighted blanket.
54:34SPEAKERWhat's the-
54:36SPEAKER- It's just comforting.
54:37SPEAKERI don't know how to explain it.
54:39SPEAKER- Just like ASMR for your body?
54:41SPEAKER- Kind of, yeah.
54:43SPEAKERI don't know how to,
54:44SPEAKERthere's probably some like infant psychology swaddling
54:48SPEAKERkind of instinct thing going on there
54:50SPEAKERthat just feels like, honestly, it's pretty calming.
54:54SPEAKERLike, especially if you're kind of an anxious sleeper,
54:57SPEAKERif you're a light sleeper,
54:59SPEAKERhave a hard time falling asleep
55:01SPEAKERor going back to sleep when you wake up.
55:04SPEAKER- I like a lot of blankets on the back.
55:06SPEAKERI like a heavy blanket load.
55:08SPEAKER- It can get hot.
55:09SPEAKERI will say that if-
55:12SPEAKER- Never too warm.
55:13SPEAKER- If, wow, really?
55:14SPEAKER- I'm always cold brown.
55:15SPEAKER- No, really?
55:16SPEAKER- Yeah, it's awful.
55:17SPEAKER- I'm kidding, I am a hot sleeper.
55:18SPEAKERI can't.
55:19SPEAKER- No, no, it can never be like,
55:22SPEAKERgive me a down blanket and a wool blanket on top of that.
55:24SPEAKERI'm good to go.
55:25SPEAKER- Okay, you should absolutely get a weighted blanket then.
55:27SPEAKER- Okay, putting it on the list.
55:29SPEAKER- It's pretty nice.
55:32SPEAKERThe last thing I pulled out of that gift channel
55:34SPEAKERis a little plastic U-shaped knife scrubber.
55:39SPEAKER- Okay, I'm gonna,
55:40SPEAKERI don't know how I feel about this one.
55:42SPEAKER- You were already throwing some shade before this episode
55:44SPEAKERand I'm just gonna expect it to continue here.
55:47SPEAKERBut we're still in the world
55:49SPEAKERwhere our dishwasher has not been fixed yet.
55:51SPEAKERSo we're doing dishes by hand right now.
55:53SPEAKERAnd I am terrible at,
55:55SPEAKERwe have some pretty nice sharp knives
55:59SPEAKERand I am terrible at washing the sharp knives.
56:01SPEAKERLike I have cut myself before.
56:03SPEAKEREvery time I do it, I think I'm gonna cut myself.
56:05SPEAKERLike it leads to me very gingerly sort of swiping up the
56:09SPEAKERblade with the sponge over and over, which takes forever.
56:14SPEAKER- So all you do is you hold the blade away from you
56:17SPEAKERand you take, oh, hold on.
56:18SPEAKERDo you have hand sponges?
56:20SPEAKER- Yes.
56:21SPEAKERWell, so we'd actually use,
56:23SPEAKERwe're using a thing now
56:24SPEAKERthat's like this little mesh cloth kind of thing.
56:28SPEAKER- Okay.
56:28SPEAKER- But it's, you know, in function
56:30SPEAKERand you use it very similarly to a sponge.
56:33SPEAKER- Okay, so we buy these,
56:34SPEAKERwe have this wand thing that a sponge,
56:37SPEAKERit's like a little plastic thing
56:39SPEAKERthat you jam the soap into.
56:41SPEAKERAnd then the soap comes through the sponge and you just,
56:44SPEAKERit's like got a handle for the sponge basically.
56:46SPEAKER- We've got one of those.
56:47SPEAKERWe just don't ever use it.
56:48SPEAKER- Well then with that,
56:49SPEAKERmy hand's never near the sharp, sharp cutting bits.
56:51SPEAKER- I should probably try that.
56:53SPEAKERAnyway, this thing is a little,
56:55SPEAKERa little U shaped piece of plastic with bristles
56:57SPEAKERon the inside of the U.
57:00SPEAKERSo it's kind of a slot.
57:01SPEAKERIt's like a little slotted brush where you just stick the
57:03SPEAKERblade into the slot and then you, I don't know.
57:05SPEAKERWhy are you so skeptical?
57:07SPEAKER- No, no, no, no.
57:08SPEAKERLike I gotta say, I hadn't really,
57:11SPEAKERlike I never, I was always a sponge guy.
57:13SPEAKERI was never really a brush guy for the washing of the dishes
57:15SPEAKERuntil fairly recently.
57:17SPEAKERSo I would just work on it with like the scotch brats,
57:19SPEAKERbright side of the sponge, really,
57:21SPEAKERreally hard for a long time.
57:22SPEAKERAnd then once I got a brush, I was like, oh,
57:24SPEAKERthis is infinitely easier than the way I was doing this
57:26SPEAKERbefore.
57:27SPEAKER- Sure.
57:28SPEAKERWait, hang on.
57:29SPEAKERAlso, y'all have a working dishwasher, right?
57:31SPEAKER- Yeah, of course.
57:32SPEAKER- Do you just?
57:32SPEAKER- We like make scrambled eggs and they get stuck on the pan
57:35SPEAKERor something.
57:36SPEAKER- Yeah, that's fair.
57:37SPEAKERWhat about the knives though?
57:38SPEAKER- Well, I just, I don't,
57:39SPEAKERthe knives don't go in the dishwasher.
57:40SPEAKER- No?
57:41SPEAKER- No.
57:42SPEAKER- Okay.
57:43SPEAKER- I don't really know why.
57:44SPEAKERI was gonna say I was waiting for some sage wisdom
57:46SPEAKERabout why knives don't go in dishwasher.
57:48SPEAKER- We have, look, I'm gonna go ahead and tell you,
57:51SPEAKERin our house, some of the members have some strange feelings
57:54SPEAKERabout the amount of damage that the dishwasher
57:56SPEAKERis going to do to things.
57:58SPEAKER- Okay.
57:59SPEAKER- Others of us are much less apathetic
58:01SPEAKERabout that entire process.
58:02SPEAKER- That's right.
58:03SPEAKERI remember being at your house and you chucked that,
58:05SPEAKERthat coveted seventies aperture mug
58:07SPEAKERthat we've talked about recently straight in the dishwasher.
58:09SPEAKERAnd I was like, oh my God, the thing's irreplaceable.
58:10SPEAKERWhat are you doing?
58:12SPEAKERAnd you were like, I think you said your feeling
58:15SPEAKERwas basically if the mug can't survive multiple trips
58:17SPEAKERthrough the dishwasher, it doesn't deserve to be there.
58:19SPEAKER- Well, first off we have a Bosch,
58:20SPEAKERso it doesn't have a heating element.
58:21SPEAKERSo it doesn't apply direct heat.
58:23SPEAKER- Okay.
58:24SPEAKER- So like stuff like plastic that normally would get warped
58:26SPEAKERand fucked up in a normal dishwasher
58:28SPEAKERdoesn't have that problem in there.
58:30SPEAKERBut two, yeah, like things are meant to be used.
58:33SPEAKERIf it's not gonna survive the dishwasher, so be it.
58:35SPEAKER- So it's really survival of the finished
58:38SPEAKERin the Smith's kitchen.
58:39SPEAKER- Look, 50% of the Smith's kitchen,
58:41SPEAKERdepends on who loads the dishwasher.
58:45SPEAKERBut anyway, yeah, the knives,
58:46SPEAKERthe good knives don't go in the dishwasher.
58:47SPEAKERThat's the TLDR out of our house.
58:49SPEAKER- Yeah.
58:51SPEAKER- I think that's a good place to wrap it up.
58:53SPEAKER- Yeah, you brought a little kind of post script here
58:57SPEAKERabout things we would like to get for Christmas.
58:59SPEAKERAnd you listed a raising wheel.
59:00SPEAKER- I want a steering wheel for my computer,
59:03SPEAKERdespite what you said earlier in the episode.
59:06SPEAKERFeel personally attacked now.
59:08SPEAKER- Sure.
59:09SPEAKERI also, not because of any kind of past trauma
59:12SPEAKERabout asking for an AT-AT for Christmas when I was a youth
59:15SPEAKERand getting the Ewok village instead.
59:17SPEAKER- Oh no.
59:18SPEAKER- There's a really expensive UCS edition AT-AT
59:22SPEAKERwith like 5,000 pieces in it that like opens up
59:25SPEAKERand you can put the little stormtroopers in.
59:27SPEAKERSo it's actually like carries them around.
59:29SPEAKER- What is UCS?
59:31SPEAKER- Ultimate Collector Series.
59:33SPEAKERIt's basically a premium Lego.
59:36SPEAKERThe Lego is still the same Lego.
59:37SPEAKERIt's just like a massive number of pieces
59:39SPEAKERand clearly for adults versus...
59:43SPEAKERSo the right way to say this is that the scale
59:48SPEAKERon the normal, like $50 Lego X-wing is wrong
59:51SPEAKERfor the mini-fig.
59:52SPEAKERLike they have to juice the scale to make it work.
59:55SPEAKERThe scale on the UCS ones is right for the mini-figs.
59:57SPEAKER- Oh, wow.
59:58SPEAKER- Yeah, so they're way, way bigger.
1:00:00SPEAKER- That's a big set.
1:00:01SPEAKER- Yeah, so this one is like three feet tall
1:00:03SPEAKERor something ridiculous.
1:00:04SPEAKER- And $800 apparently.
1:00:05SPEAKER- And $800, I'm not gonna spend $800 on a Lego AT-AT.
1:00:09SPEAKER- That's a lot of Lego.
1:00:10SPEAKER- I mean, I don't even know what I would do.
1:00:14SPEAKERLike I don't even know what I'd do
1:00:15SPEAKERwith an $800 Lego AT-AT kit after I finished building it.
1:00:18SPEAKERI think I'd probably just take it apart
1:00:19SPEAKERand put it in the garage and then build it again next year.
1:00:20SPEAKERI don't know.
1:00:21SPEAKER- Put it in a hyperbaric chamber or something.
1:00:23SPEAKERLike it'd be cool.
1:00:23SPEAKERProtect it.
1:00:24SPEAKER- Build a polycarbonate shell for it.
1:00:29SPEAKER- Yeah.
1:00:30SPEAKER- Put it in, make a set.
1:00:32SPEAKERI don't know.
1:00:33SPEAKERI don't know what I would do with that.
1:00:33SPEAKERAnyway.
1:00:34SPEAKER- I don't have anything to add here.
1:00:35SPEAKERI guess I just will take this opportunity
1:00:37SPEAKERto say I feel very fortunate
1:00:39SPEAKERthat I can't think of anything to add here.
1:00:40SPEAKER- Your aesthetic life has continued to pay off.
1:00:42SPEAKER- I mean, yes, I do lead a pretty aesthetic existence,
1:00:44SPEAKERbut also like it's pretty fortunate
1:00:47SPEAKERto be able to say you don't really want for much, I guess.
1:00:48SPEAKER- It's true.
1:00:49SPEAKERIt's true.
1:00:50SPEAKER- I can't think of anything on new TV, maybe?
1:00:53SPEAKERLike the old one's fine.
1:00:55SPEAKER- I mean, when the things that you want for it
1:00:57SPEAKERare as stupid as a Lego AT-AT
1:00:59SPEAKERor a steering wheel for your computer,
1:01:01SPEAKERthen yeah, you're in a good spot, I guess.
1:01:04SPEAKERThe hierarchy of needs is mostly filled.
1:01:07SPEAKER- Oh, hey, if you have ideas for things,
1:01:09SPEAKERpost them in the Discord.
1:01:09SPEAKERPost them in this week's.
1:01:10SPEAKERWe'll make a new thread in this week's episode,

1:02:02SPEAKERwith River Phoenix in it before.

1:02:23SPEAKER- It's not about shoes.
1:02:24SPEAKER- No, it is not.
1:02:25SPEAKER- It's about people that break into places for money.
1:02:28SPEAKER- Yes, they sneak.
1:02:29SPEAKERIt's a white hat, black hat sitch.
1:02:31SPEAKER- They sneak into things and make off with secrets
1:02:35SPEAKERor money or whatever.
